Ideally you want to have the high carb days on the days you train your lagging body parts, and the no carb days on your “off days” or you can perform cardio to accelerate fat loss. By incorporating carbs on your lagging body part days, you create a very anabolic environment, preserving lean body mass. Consuming little to no carbs on your off days allow you to take advantage of low insulin levels which accelerate fat loss.

Good question. After all everyone saw at least 5 pounds of weight lost and some of which had struggled to see even the slightest loss in body weight prior to the program. But, the answer is NO. If you continue to follow a NO CARB DIET (not to be confused with a low carb diet) you will not continue to see results beyond the initial 10-14 days, which is why the program did not last longer.

Your body converts the carbs that you eat into glucose/blood sugar for use in a wide variety of metabolic processes. This conversion can happen rapidly or slowly depending on the type of carbohydrate food eaten. This rate is known as the Glycemic Index. A higher number means the food is rapidly converted into glucose - a lower number means the food is more slowly converted into glucose. For example, table sugar has a high glycemic index while beans have a low glycemic index.

With all the controversies surrounding low-carb diets and the scores of variation, the first step is to become informed. You need to know how cutting carbohydrates works, what foods have carbohydrates, and how to eat a balanced low-carb diet with sufficient fiber, protein and fats.

Let's start with a little Nutrition 101. A carbohydrate is a nutrient that is used by your body for energy. It contains 4 kilocalories of energy per gram (kilocalorie is the formal name for calorie).

First, does the diet include lots of fresh vegetables and fruit for antioxidants, whole grains and nuts for fiber and vitamins, and protein sources that rely more on fish and poultry than red meat? Will you be eating enough calories to get the nutrition you need in order to live with and fight diabetes?

When you take in anything that increases your blood sugar levels (basically carbohydrate - from fruits, to wholemeal breads, to sweeties) rise. How quickly they rise is dependent on how sugary and simple the food is i.e. a Mars Bar will increase your blood sugar levels far more quickly than a bowl of brown rice.

We should take a moment and talk about a couple of myths surrounding the All tricks and ideas for a slim belly and whether it is healthy long term. Our bodies can perform in the state of ketosis and be healthy. This state of ketosis is a natural occurrence when the body is not using sugar and glucose. The human body has no problem operating in this state naturally. In other words, it is safe to burn the fat!!

When you go on a no carb diet you are putting your body in a very ketogenic state, which is great for weight loss, but over time you will begin to lose muscle tissue. This muscle tissue loss is due to your body using the muscle as fuel because of the very low levels of carbohydrate in the body (muscle glycogen). If your body begins to lose only muscle tissue you will slowly reduce your metabolism overtime, which is not what we are looking to do.

In the end, eating a balanced, healthy diet for the rest of your life is the best way to lose weight. Instead of focusing on the newest diet fad, look for a weight loss program that show you how to lead a healthy life. You will not only lose weight, you will live a longer and better life.
